A plea filed in the High Court of Delhi to stop IPL – Delhi HC has received a petition from lawyer Karan Singh Thukral and social activist Inder Mohan Singh demanding an inquiry into why IPL 2021 is being given priority over public health. The plea also asks the centre to direct BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) and DDCA (Delhi and District Cricket Association)to stop IPL 2021 immediately.
Petitioner Thukral is a practising advocate and is currently suffering from Covid-19 and is disturbed by the state of affairs in the city and the complete failure of the medical system.
“On one side, people are dying due to a lack of hospital beds and are seen waiting in queues to cremate their loved ones, while on the other end, instead of applying resources to its optimal use, the respondent(s) has deemed it appropriate to go on and support the conduct of the IPL,” Thukral has said in his plea.
On Monday in IPL 2021, the match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) slated to be played later on Monday night was postponed. This development comes after two KKR players — Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier tested positive for Covid-19.KKR players to undergo daily testing.
The plea states that Mandamus or any other appropriate writ, order or directive directs the respondent why the IPL is being given priority over public health.

IPL likely to be shifted to Mumbai: Report
After COVID-19 cases in KKR, CSK camp, BCCI is aiming to minimize the risk for the remaining matches (3rd leg, playoffs) of IPL 2021. If plans are executed, the league might be shifted entirely to Mumbai towards the end of this week. The alterations could also lead to a slight change in the IPL 2021 schedule, with multiple doubleheaders.
