On Friday, the Delhi High Court rolled out a mobile application along with a set of digital initiatives. The launch ceremony was attended by Supreme Court judge Justice Vikram Nath, who hailed the High Court’s technological drive.
Justice Vikram Nath, while commending the initiative, stressed the importance of transparency in court proceedings. He emphasized live-streaming hearings, pointing out that while hybrid courts allow video conferencing for parties, the public is still excluded from watching cases. With a lighthearted remark, he urged Chief Justice D.K. Upadhyaya and Justice Prathiba M. Singh to “go live,” quipping that he would happily return to inaugurate such a system.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, also present at the event, announced that the state government will soon provide free Wi-Fi in all court complexes. In a candid note, she mentioned that the government often faces stern directions from the judiciary. Responding to this, Justice Vikram Nath clarified that court orders are never personal but a necessity to ensure governance in the public interest.
Chief Justice D.K. Upadhyaya further emphasized that the judiciary’s role is to act as a catalyst, energizing other wings of the state to serve the people of Delhi more effectively.
