On Monday, the Goa court extended the police remand of Saurabh Luthra and Gaurav Luthra, owners of the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub, by five days, intensifying the investigation into the December 6 blaze that killed 25 people and underscoring judicial resolution in a case of grave public safety concern.

The extension follows the arrest of the Luthra siblings after they left India in the immediate aftermath of the fire and were deported from Thailand on December 17. Investigators are probing lapses linked to the nightclub’s operations and compliance, with the custody extension aimed at enabling further questioning and evidence collection tied to the fatal incident.

Granting the prosecution’s request, the court permitted continued custodial interrogation, noting the seriousness of the allegations and the ongoing probe. Confirming the order, counsel for the victims’ families stated, “The court has extended the police custody of Saurabh Luthra and Gaurav Luthra by five days.” The matter will now proceed with the accused remaining in police custody for an extended period.
