The Division Bench of Bombay High Court, comprising Justices Sunil Shukre and Firdosh Pooniwalla in the case of Mohammed Atiq Ibrahim Ansari v. Central Board of Film Certification & Ors. has constituted a three member committee to investigate claims that the Hindi film "I Killed Bapu" contains offensive material and disparages the nation's father, Mahatma Gandhi.
The members of the panel are as follows:
- Hon’ble Mr. Justice (Retired) Shri. A. A. Sayyed Former Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court.
- Hon’ble Mr. Justice (Retired) Abhay Thipsay, former Judge of the Bombay High Court.
- Mr. Amol Palekar, Actor
The Bench requested the panel to take a preview of the film “ I Killed Bapu” and consider whether the film has any such objectionable material or has any potential of seriously threatening societal disharmony and submit its report accordingly to this court.
The Court listed the matter on 01.11.23 for next hearing.
