Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has taken his legal battle to the Supreme Court, contesting his recent arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy case.

In a move to expedite the process, Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi today, requested an early listing of the case before Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud. The challenge pertains to an August 5, 2024, order from a single judge of the Delhi High Court, which had earlier rejected Kejriwal's objections to his arrest by the CBI. The Chief Justice has promised to review the email request for an expedited hearing and will confirm the date in due course.

For context, Kejriwal was initially detained by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21, 2024, over allegations of money laundering. On June 26, 2024, he was subsequently arrested by the CBI on charges related to corruption in the Excise Liquor Policy. Although the Supreme Court granted him interim bail in the money laundering case on July 12, 2024, he remains in judicial custody due to the ongoing corruption case.

Kejriwal’s latest appeal, filed on August 5, 2024, at the Delhi High Court, aimed to challenge his detention in the corruption case. However, the court’s single judge ruled against him, prompting the current appeal to the Supreme Court.
