CM should have respect for police officials, claimed complainant Police Constable.
Today Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal as been summoned as an accused by a local court on a complaint for criminal defamation filed against him for his alleged 'Thulla' remark against Delhi Police.
MM Ravindra Kumar Pandey directed Kejriwal to appear before him on July 14. The order was passed after hearing pre-summoning arguments on a complaint filed by a Police Constable posted at Lajpat Nagar Police Station .
Recording his Prima facie satisfaction, the court said," I am satisfied that offence punishable under sections 499/500(defamation) of IPC is committed by Arvind Kejriwal so he be summoned for the offence... for July 14, 2016," the order said.
The complainant, Constable Ajay Kumar Taneja, claimed that by the 'Thulla' word used by Kejriwal, being a member of Delhi Police, he was defamed.
In this complaint, filed through his Lawyer L N Rao on July 23 last year, the coplainant constable claimed that Kejriwal had used the "derogatory" word 'thulla' for policemen on a news channel while talking about AAP government's "constraints" in overseeing effective functioning of the Anti-Corruption Branch.
The Complaint read,"If a word like 'Thulla' is used by an eminent person like Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to refer to Delhi Police personnel, then the general public would too have no respect for police officials who dedicate their entire lives to maintain law and order in the City of Delhi," it said.
A similar complaint was filed earlier against CM Kejriwal by another constable posted at Govind Puri police station here, which is still pending adjudication before a court here.
