The Law Minister Kiren Rijiju informed Lok Sabha that Government is not planning to frame any law on Compulsory Voting.
He replied to an Unstarred Question that whether the Government proposes to enact any law to enforce compulsory voting in the country or not.
He stated that the Government has not proposed to make voting certificate mandatory to avail benefits and schemes provided by the Government in order to increase the percentage of voter turnout in various elections.
The Government has not received any suggestions from any organization or the State Governments to make voting compulsory.
