Ministry of Law & Justice informed Rajya Sabha that 3 women judges are working in the Supreme Court of India, whereas 111 women judges are working in various High Courts.

The Ministry replied to unstarred questions regarding the details of the number of women judges within the country.

The Law Minister further highlighted that the Government has been requesting the Chief Justices of High Courts that while sending proposals for appointment of Judges, due consideration be given to suitable candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, Minorities and Women to ensure social diversity in appointment of Judges in High Courts.
