The Law Minister informed Lok Sabha that since introduction of Nyaya Mitra programme in 2017, a total of 38 NyayaMitra were engaged in the States of Assam, Bihar, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal and assisted the Court concerned in disposal of 3495 old cases which includes matrimonial cases, accident claim and also criminal cases.

He replied to an Unstarred Question related to details of Nyaya Mitras proposed to be engaged in district courts and their assistance in reducing of pendency in the Courts.

He further highlighted that no Nyaya Mitra could be engaged during the year 2020-2021 due to closure of courts and social distancing protocols caused by Covid pandemic.

The aim of Nyaya Mitra scheme is to facilitate expeditious disposal of 15 years old pending cases in High Courts and Subordinate Courts.
