Minister of State in Ministry of Home Affairs Shri Ajay Kumar Mishra informed Lok Sabha that Government has allocated Rs. 265 Crores for the scheme named “'Comprehensive Rehabilitation for Welfare of Transgender Persons” which is started for the welfare of Transgender community.

He replied to an Unstarred Question related to data of statistics of crimes against sexual minorities like transgenders.

He stated that as per information received from the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) 236 cases were registered under IPC in respect of crimes against transgenders.

The Minister further informed the Lok Sabha that Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has launched a scheme "SMILE - Support for Marginalized Individuals for Livelihood and Enterprise", which includes sub-scheme 'Comprehensive Rehabilitation for Welfare of Transgender Persons'. The focus of the sub-scheme is on rehabilitation, provision of medical facilities and intervention, counselling, education, skill development, economic linkages to the transgender persons.
