The Hon’ble Court of IV th Addl. Sessions Court, Ernakulam (Special Court-II, CBI, Ernakulam) today i.e. 03/1/2025 sentenced 10 accused private persons namely Peethambaran A; Saji C George @ Saji; Suresh K.M.; Anil Kumar K @ Abu; Gijin; Shrirag R @ Kuttu; Aswin A @ Appu; Subeesh @ Mani; Ranjith T @ Appu; and A.Sruendan @ Vishnu Sura to undergo Life Imprisonment and accused Manikandan; K.V.Kunhiraman @ Uduma kunhiraman; Ragavan Velutholi and K.V.Bhaskaran to undergo Imprisonment of 5 years with total fine of Rs.21,40,000/-, in the case related to the murder of two youth activists of a political party. The Court had earlier convicted these accused on 28.12.2024, and posted the case for pronouncing sentence today.
CBI had re-registered the instant case on 23.10.2019 in compliance of the order of the Hon’ble High Court of Kerala dated 30.09.2019 transferring the Investigation of the case to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The case called (Periya double murder case), relating to the murder of two youth activists of a political party namely Kripesh and Sarathlal allegedly by activists of rival political party, was initially registered at Bekkal Police Station, Kasaragod and was subsequently handed over to the State Crime Branch.
It was revealed during investigation that accused Peethambaran A, alongwith other accused hatched a criminal conspiracy near the bus waiting shed at a place called Echiladukkam in Periya Village and decided to murder Kripesh and Sarathlal due to political rivalry and enmity towards the deceased persons. Pursuant to such conspiracy, on 17.02.2019, eight accused namely Peethambaran A; Saji C George @ Saji; Suresh K.M.; Anil Kumar K @ Abu; Gijin; Shrirag R @ Kuttu; Aswin A @ Appu; Subeesh @ Mani armed with deadly weapons reached the arecanut plantation on the side of the KSEB Sub Station, Periya and waited there for Kripesh and Sarathlal. When Kripesh and Sarathlal arrived on a motorcycle, said 08 accused persons jumped onto the road and attacked them with iron pipes and swords, causing them fatal injuries which resulted in their death.
After completion of investigation, CBI filed chargesheet on 03.12.2021 against accused persons including those convicted and sentenced by the Court.
The Court, after trial, found aforesaid accused guilty and sentenced them accordingly.
