Senior Advocate Gopal Mukherjee has been appointed Advocate General (AG) of West Bengal.

Governor of West Bengal, Jagdeep Dhankar, has confirmed the appointed from his twitter handle.

The Governor tweeted that, “"In terms of Article 165 (1) of the Constitution of India Governor West Bengal Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar has appointed Shri Gopal Mukherjee, Senior Advocate of High Court at Calcutta, as Advocate General of the state and will hold office “during the pleasure of the Governor"," the Governor wrote on Twitter.”

The post fell vacant after the resignation of Senior Advocate Kishore Datta citing personal reasons.

Datta sent his resignation letter to West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar on Tuesday and the same was accepted.

"I do hereby tender resignation as the Advocate General for the State of West Bengal with immediate effect owing to personal reasons," the resignation letter said.
