The President of India has assented to the transfer of Chief Justice of Madras high court, Sanjib Banerjee, to Meghalaya HC
The notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice has notified that,
“In exercise of the power conferred by clause (I) of Article 222 of the Constitution of India, the President, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, is pleased to transfer Shri Justice Sanjib Banerjee, Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, as the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court and to direct him to assume charge of the office of the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court.”
About Justice Sanjib Banerjee
Justice Sanjib Banerjee was born on November 2, 1961. He studied in St. Xavier’s Collegiate School, Calcutta and St. Paul’s School, Darjeeling. He had passed B.Sc. with Honours in Economics in the year 1983 and LL.B. in the year 1986-87 – both from the University of Calcutta.
He was appointed as Chief Justice of the Madras High Court vide Notification No. K. 13026/04/2020-US.I Government of India, Ministry of Law and Justice (Department of Justice) and assumed the office of Chief Justice of Madras High Court on January 4, 2021.
