In a renewed push to institutionalise alternative dispute resolution, the Bar Council of India (BCI) is set to convene a 2 day national conference on mediation in Goa, underscoring the growing urgency to reduce court backlogs and promote faster, consensual justice mechanisms across India.
The conference, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, is being organised jointly by the Bar Council of India, the Bar Council of India Trust PEARL FIRST, and the India International University of Legal Education and Research (IIULER), Goa. Titled “Mediation: How Far Significant in the Present-Day Context”, the event aims to bring together legal professionals, academics, and stakeholders to examine mediation’s expanding role in contemporary dispute resolution and its integration into mainstream legal practice.
According to the organisers, the initiative is being held under the directions of BCI Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra, Senior Advocate and Rajya Sabha MP, and is intended as a strategic step towards repositioning mediation within India’s justice delivery framework. The BCI noted that the conference reflects a concerted effort to strengthen mediation “as a core pillar of India’s justice delivery system,” signalling institutional backing for ADR reforms.
