On Tuesday, a Lawyer & his friend were arrested for threatening the parents of a minor girl not to testify against his client, who had married their daughter, before the Court in Ramanathapuram, Coimbatore.
A Police officer told that 32-year-old Advocate D Seenivasan’s client Benny had married the minor girl against the wishes of her parents in Oct 2019. “Her parents subsequently lodged a complaint against Benny, who was arrested & sent to the Coimbatore Central Prison.”
The officer said Benny’s elder brother Joshua was also arrested for marrying a minor girl & that he was also undergoing jail term for the offence.
The Officer said that “On Tuesday, the advocate, along with his friend, entered the minor girl’s house & threatened her parents not to appear before court & testify against his client (Benny). They also abused them & threatened to kill them".
The girl’s parents lodged a complaint with the Ramanathapuram Police, who registered a case under Section 75(i)(c) of the Tamil Nadu Police Act, Section 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code and Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act & arrested D Seenivasan & his friend T Valakai alias Senthil, both residents of Puliyakulam.
The 2 were produced before the Judicial Magistrate, who remanded them in judicial custody, on Tuesday itself. They were later lodged in the Coimbatore Central Prison.
