The Interviewer, Manvi Singh is a student of LLB student of Department of Laws, Panjab University. She is currently interning with LatestLaws.com.Q1. Tell us about your early childhood?

Ans. My father was an employee in Central Government’s Ministry of Heavy Industries and so I completed my schooling from Delhi.

Q2: Are you a first generation lawyer?

Ans. Yes, I am a first generation lawyer.

Q3: When did you decide to pursue law as profession and why?

Ans. As a child I was not keen on taking law as a profession. But then after completing my graduation I realized of my inquisitive nature as to know about law, the lack of awareness about law in a common man when faced with a legal issue prompted me to pursue law.

Q4: How was your experience in Law School?

Ans. My plan A was to start up my business which I did but didn’t go well. And then starting afresh in a law school was an enriching experience, staying away from home was a completely different experience( learning to do own work:he laughs).

Q5: How do you think that the law school education has changed since then?

Ans.  It is quite competitive these days as in my law days we did not had that system where everybody was rushing to join Law School.  It is much more holistic where learning the theory is just not enough but the practical side is given more importance by making the students gain a first hand experience through moot courts, client counselling, etc.Q6. Would you like to share any experience of your first day in the Court/Case?

Ans. I was as a junior, and as my senior could not appear for some reason; I went to the court to take a further date. And the judge asked me to argue, on listening this I stood numb and this was the biggest inspiration when he said “one day Mr. Singh you will have to argue, why not today”. This pumped confidence into me and I am here today 20 years later.

Q8. Please share a case or two of your memorable cases in your professional journey?

It was my own sister’s case divorce case when her husband left her and just disappeared. Being a family  emotional issue fighting it was  a big deal then when it was just a year I had started practising.

Q8: What according to you the Indian legal system should improve in?

Ans. It should be made friendly to common people. Slow justice delivery speed is just a symptom underneath many things which have weakened the system. A thorough overhaul at all levels and in all areas is long overdue.

Q10: What is your wisdom and success mantra for young legal professionals?

Ans. Hardwork and patience is the key.
