The State Govt. is toying with the thought of coming up with a budget for children for their overall growth in terms of health, education & others. If the plan materialises, children will be able to benefit from it till they are 18-year-old. Women & Child Development Department will be the nodal head for the implementation of the budget.
“As of now, it is still in a preliminary stage of planning. But the main aim is to get more clarity on funds being channelled for child welfare schemes by various departments. We are just trying to understand how much is being spent on each of them. The aim is overall development & empowerment of the children," said an official of the state’s directorate of child rights.
Once implemented, this will be the first time that the State Govt. will have a separate budget for child welfare.
“Majority of the schemes are either directly or indirectly meant for child welfare. For instance, if we provide nutrition or healthcare for women, then it is in some way going to benefit their children. For women empowerment, we have gender budget which also in turns benefitd children. We will take inputs from various departments, which will help us understand which schemes need more funds & are benefitting more," the official added.
“We have also just got to know that there is a plan to have a separate budget for children. We will start work on it, but it is too early to say when it will be implemented." an official of the women & child welfare department said.
