The Delhi High Court has sought the response of Trinamool Congress (TMC) Member of Parliament Mahua Moitra in connection with a petition filed by advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai, challenging an order that restricted him from publicising proceedings relating to a custody dispute over their pet dog.

Justice Manoj Jain, while issuing notice on the appeal, observed that it would be in the interest of both parties to attempt an amicable settlement rather than prolonging the matter through litigation.

According to case records, Moitra had approached the trial court seeking joint custody of a Rottweiler named Henry. In those proceedings, the trial court passed an ex-parte order directing that the case “shall not be publicised in any manner".

Dehadrai has now assailed this order before the High Court, arguing that it amounts to a sweeping restriction, effectively barring him from even acknowledging the existence of Moitra’s suit in the public domain. He has described the directive as a “gag order” that violates his right to disclose relevant information.

The matter will be taken up for further consideration after Moitra files her response to the appeal.
