The Bombay High Court has allowed DHFL promoter Dheeraj Wadhawan, a key figure accused in the Yes Bank loan case, to have an extended three-hour visit with his family at a private hospital in Mumbai. This modification comes after a special PMLA court initially granted him only one hour of visitation time. Advocate Amit Desai, representing Wadhawan, had requested an extension, stating that his family needed to discuss significant medical matters with him.

Justice PD Naik, presiding over the case, granted the extended family visitation but imposed strict conditions. Wadhawan is prohibited from signing any documents except for those directly related to medical treatment or court proceedings. This decision comes in light of past incidents where Wadhawan was accused of checking business documents.

Wadhawan had earlier sought interim bail in the special PMLA court, citing health reasons. However, his plea was rejected due to his alleged misuse of liberty during a previous hospitalization. Special Judge MG Deshpande denied the interim bail on July 14. Instead, the court granted Wadhawan permission to receive medical treatment at a private hospital in Mumbai for eight days.

During the court proceedings, the Special Public Prosecutor AM Chimalkar, representing the CBI, pointed out that paintings allegedly purchased with fraudulent loan money had been disposed of during Wadhawan's previous hospital stay at a private facility.

Judge Deshpande expressed concern over Wadhawan's misuse of previous hospitalization privileges, particularly at a luxurious private hospital, where he had agreed to pay for police escorts but failed to do so, leading to a recovery request by the Additional Superintendent of Police, Navi Mumbai.

The court emphasized that it could not ignore Wadhawan's failure to settle the dues despite court directions. The judge acknowledged that no precedents were presented to show other undertrial-accused individuals misusing hospitalization liberties. However, Wadhawan's past actions raised apprehensions about his compliance with the court's orders.
