A 35-year old woman, a native of Jamnagar who had came to Ahmedabad 12-days-ago after getting married to a man in Vastrapur, approached 181 Abhayam helpline alleging the man of hiding his 4 earlier relationships & the fact that he was married earlier & has a girl child from the relationship.
According to, Abhayam officials, Madhavi (name changed), called up the helpline on Sunday from a temple on SG Road after ‘catching’ the man. “The man, a designer by profession, had put his profile on a matrimonial site where he described self as single & hadn't disclosed his earlier marital status. The woman came across his profile earlier this year & after 2 months of communication, decided to get married. The duo tied knot earlier this month in an Arya Samaj ritual,” said the counsellor.
The woman claimed that after coming home, she was shocked by the revelations one after another by the man’s relatives & neighbours. She also alleged abusive behaviour by the man. When she confronted him about his earlier relations, he left home on Sunday. “Madhavi knew that he used to visit a temple on Sunday. Thus, she kept vigil the entire day & when she spotted him in the evening, she got hold of him & called us,” added the counsellor.
Sonal Sagathiya, a counsellor with Abhayam, said that they have counselled Madhavi & her husband & have also assured her of legal help if she wants to press charges against him. “The couple has sought 3 days’ time to resolve the issue,” she said.
