To honour the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has directed the schools to observe one day in a week as khadi-wearing day. It has also asked the schools to give Jute bags and hold discussion on “Nai Talim” this month.
Anurag Tripathi, CBSE Secretary said, “Observing of khadi-wearing day is voluntary & can be done once a week, fortnight or a month".
He added that Mahatma Gandhi also appealed to the nation to wear khadi as a means of strengthening self-reliance & sustenance. “So in any form, students & teachers can wear them & pay their respect to him,” said Tripathi.
The board also gave jute bags to its workers in the headquarters & regional office. It has also pledged to plant 150 trees.
