The head of the railway's passenger service committee (PSC) has directed booksellers at stations not to sell Khushwant Singh’s ‘Women, Sex, Love & Lust’ & Chetan Bhagat’s ‘Half Girlfriend’.
On Thursday, PSC chairman Ramesh Chandra Ratn said, “There is no need to go through the books ... the covers tell you what is inside.”
Ratn, who led an inspection of Trichy & Srirangam railway station, told news agency that railways bylaws empower him to prevent selling of books with vulgar content—a contention that legal experts rubbished. “I saw these two books in Bhopal station. I banned their sale on railway premises,” he said.
When asked whether any other books are being banned, Ratn said all books containing such content should be banned.
