In an attempt to ensure early Law results, Mumbai University will allow more teachers to assess papers online from any location for the upcoming Semester-end Exams.

Since many Practising Attorneys double up as teachers in City Law Colleges, a sizable number finds it tough to visit centralised assessment process centres.

In a pilot project, about 8 teachers were allowed to assess papers from wherever they were during March exams. This experiment will be extended in the upcoming exam & in future to other faculties.

“We plan to gradually increase the numbers to ensure more teachers get the benefit of this facility,” said a University official from the Exam Section.

According to the official, Teachers are asked to attach biometric fingerprint scanners to their laptops or computers for identification after logging in. As of now, teachers must bear the cost of the scanners.

The online assessment has been on for some time. It was part of the reforms the then vice-chancellor Sanjay Deshmukh had floated in 2017. Current vice-chancellor Suhas Pednekar is keen on stretching it to other faculties.

Sachin Pawar, President, Students’ Law Council said, “Early announcement of results is not our only concern. We want the quality of assessment to improve too".
