The murderous attack on SAIL chairman Anil K Chaudhary, was attacked by the murderous on Aug 8, near Hauz Khas in south Delhi.

According to Police, It was not a case of road rage but an attempted contract killing orchestrated by an Ex-vendor who used to supply bitumen to the public sector giant.

Ashok Kumar Singh, & his associate, Sunil Ballara, who aided him in hiring the men who had tried to ram their car into Chaudhary’s vehicle & attacked him with iron rods & knives had been arrested by the Crime Branch.
DCP (crime) Ram Gopal Naik confirmed the arrests & said further investigations were being conducted.
The Crime Branch had got on to Singh after questioning the attackers, two of whom were caught from the spot by patrolling cops who reached the scene during the attack. It was found that Singh & Ballara had hired the goons with the help of one of Ballara’s kin, Satender Katyan, a civil contractor, for carrying out the plan.
Katyan had paid one of the contract killers Om Prakash, Rs 2 lakh to execute the attack & promised Rs 4 lakh after the job was done.
Despite contract being cancelled, accused wanted ₹100cr paid in full
Om Prakash roped in his friends — Lalit, Amarjeet & Parvesh, all residents of Nangloi — for the job.
They were to eliminate Chaudhary & make it look like a road rage attack. Katyan, was monitoring their activities from a distance. He had also called up Ballara to inform that the “job” was done even though two of the contract killers, Lalit & Amardeep, were caught from the scene.
Police questioned Katyan after interrogating the duo, but he initially tried to mislead them. However, after the case was transferred to the crime branch, the cops again quizzed Katyan & confronted him with technical evidence, after which he admitted to his association with Ballara.
Ballara was caught from his residence in west Delhi & he soon blamed Singh for all this.
During interrogation, Singh revealed that in Jan 2018, SAIL had contracted Singh to supply coal for one of their plants. The coal was sourced from the US through another company. SAIL had also paid Rs 30 crore as transportation charges but after the coal had reached the port later that month, it was found that it was not certified by US authorities.
Later, during an inspection it was found that the quality of the coal was also not up to SAIL’s standards, due to which the contract was terminated. SAIL officials later told police that Singh had insisted on a full payment of Rs 100 crore despite the contract being cancelled. He had even got into a spat with Chaudhary, who was then heading the finance department, for red-flagging the contract.
Police said Singh had been hatching a plan to take a revenge on Chaudhary ever since the matter was put up for arbitration at a high court & the proceedings there were dragging on. He had roped in Ballara, who used to work as a sub-contractor under him & asked him to eliminate Chaudhary so that his future contracts with SAIL are not red-flagged.
Singh was produced before a court on Monday & granted bail.
