Using Google maps, forest officials have disproved a petition filed by encroachers claiming they were being dispossessed of land that rightly belonged to them. Judge Challa Kodandram on Sept 9 disposed off the petition, paving way for the forest department to reclaim land occupied by encroachers in Khammam district.
On Aug 29, 2019, farmer K Bhadraiah, a resident of Manikyaram of Khammam district, & 4 others, filed a writ petition in Telangana HC alleging that forest officials of Khammam are trying to dispossess them of land despite pattas having been issued under Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act.
But the officials filed a counter submitting Google Earth timeline images. During verification it was found Bhadraiah was given Recognition of Forest Rights (RoFR) for 7.4 acres but he had encroached more land.
