Customs officials at Chennai international airport seized e-cigarettes & other items from 2 passengers on Sunday. The seizure happened a few days after the Centre banned e-cigarettes.
Based on information, the officials intercepted Abbasali Syed Ebrahim, 43, & Mohamed Ribai, 41, of
Chennai, who arrived here from Hong Kong via Bangkok in a Thai Airways flight.
Search of their personal belongings & their check in baggage was carried out.
The officials found 89 e-cigarettes & 74 e-cigarette cartridges from the duo’s bags. Their total value was Rs 1.10 lakh.
Three iPad Pro (1 TB & 256 GB), eleven iPhone Pro (256 GB), seventeen iPhone 11 Pro Max-(256GB & 512 GB) valued at Rs 21.2 lakh were found concealed in their personal effects.
2 gold cut bits & 4 round shape gold bits, weighing a total of 164 gram & worth at Rs 6.2 lakh, were recovered from their pants pockets.
