According to report of Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), a American think-tank and Nathan Associates, Sikkim has the best working conditions whereas national capital Delhi has the worst working conditions for women.
The states have been ranked in the Report according to the four main factors which are as follows:
- Legal restrictions on the women's working hours in the factories, retail, and the IT industry;
- Responsiveness of the state's criminal justice system to crimes affecting working women, such as sexual harassment;
- Number of women workers in the state as a percentage of total workers;
- Number of incentives given by the state's startup and industrial policies for women entrepreneurs.
According to the Report,"Sikkim is a breakthrough state for the women as the workplace, thanks to Sikkim's high rates of female workforce participation, lack of the restrictions on women's working hours, and also there are high conviction rates for workforce crimes against the women".
Sikkim is followed by Telangana (28.5 points), Puducherry (25.6), Karnataka (24.7), Himachal Pradesh (24. 2).
Four states which are Sikkim, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu have already removed all the restrictions on women working at night in factories, retail establishments and the IT sector, the report states.
