According to official records, the South & East corporations have issued over 1,200 challans during this period, which has seen a major spike in pollution levels. Challans were also issued for dumping building waste at undesignated places.

Records show that since Oct 15, the South body issued over 350 challans amounting to Rs 1.38 crore against construction activities emitting dust, whereas the East body issued more than 380 challans amounting to Rs 37 lakh for the same.

With C&D waste dumping also a contributor to heightened levels of dust in the air, the two civic bodies together imposed 548 challans amounting to Rs 39 lakh against it since Oct 15.

DPCC member secretary Arun Misra said, “Pragati Maidan redevelopment project contractor was fined Rs 1 crore two months ago by the SC-monitoring committee.
