Madhya Pradesh will become 2nd state in the country to launch a crime alert mobile application to arrest crimes — especially those committed against women & children.
Called the Shakti Alert, the app will be launched in partnership with BSNL & demonstrated to the public on Thursday. Speaking to reporters at the state PCC office on Tuesday, minister for law, PC Sharma said, “Crime alert apps are operational in western countries, including the United States. In India, it has been introduced in Tamil Nadu. As soon as a crime is committed, a citizen can alert the law enforcement agencies & neighbouring areas about the incident on the app.”
In Tamil Nadu, it is known as the Kavalan SOS & is directly linked to the state’s police control room.
The application can be downloaded on android phones. Sharma said, after demonstration of the app scheduled in the state capital on Thursday, the pilot project will be launched in Bhopal & Indore. Once successful, the application will be introduced across the state.
“Thousands of children disappear from our state. This application can help in sending timely alerts & rescuing such victims,” he said. “Once a child is reported abducted, an alert on the application can send instant message to the police & neighbouring areas. Action can be initiated promptly & culprits arrested,” he said. All criminal activity can be reported on the application, he said. Speaking at the meet, the minister also said, the state will withdraw politically motivated & false cases registered against Congress workers & farmers, by the erstwhile Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) govt.
“This was a part of our promise in the Vachan Patra. On Monday, we had a meeting of the review committee. All political cases spitefully registered by the former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) govt against our workers will be withdrawn. Also, there were 45,000 cases registered against farmers who protested the previous govt’s anti-agrarian policies. All these cases are being reviewed at the district levels by collectors, SPs & advocates. Thousands of such cases will be withdrawn,” he said.
