Mahanagar police was caught in a tricky situation on Tuesday when a ‘disputed’ vehicle was recovered from the official bungalow of a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) near Wireless Crossing.

According to Station House Officer (SHO) Ashok KumarSingh, the car belongs to police sub-inspector (SI) Puja Yadav. She bought it in Apr 2018 & rented it to one Chandra Pal Singh who runs a travel agency.

Puja knows Chandra Pal since 2016 when she was posted at Mahanagar police station & he was a witness in a case.

However, on Sept 1, Puja’s husband Avinesh Dwivedi lodged an First Information Report (FIR) against Chandra Pal for defaulting on car rent & not returning the vehicle. Avinesh also alleged that Chandra Pal had taken Rs 12 lakh as loan from them, but didn't return the money.

On Tuesday afternoon, Puja called Mahanagar police & said she saw her car parked at the bungalow of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) (Technical) Anil Kumar. “We visited the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) who gave us the key to the car. He said the sub-inspector (SI) & Chandra Pal came 15 days ago & parked the vehicle on his premises. We have returned the car to Puja,” the Station House Officer (SHO) said.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Kumar told that Chandra Pal was a distant relative of his wife Pushpa. She said when Chandra Pal & Puja came to their house 15 days ago, the sub-inspector (SI) was drunk. So, Chandra Pal parked the vehicle & took Puja home.

Chandra Pal conceded that he hadn't paid Puja the car rent since May, but claimed he returned the vehicle on Aug 18. “On Aug 20, I got a call from Puja & we met at Gol Market. She was in an inebriated state. I took permission from Deputy Inspector General (DIG)’s wife, parked Puja’s vehicle at their bungalow & dropped her home in my vehicle,” he said, adding that he was being framed.

Puja rubbished Chandra Pal’s claims. She said he had called her on Aug 24 & threatened her. He allegedly flaunted his links with “highly placed people”, & asked her to forget about the money & her car.
