About the organiser

The National Law School of India University, Bengaluru is an institution of legal education focusing on undergraduate and graduate legal and policy education in India.

The Center for Intellectual Property Research and Advocacy (CIPRA) being one of the research and advocacy centers of National Law School of India University is dedicated for research in the area of Intellectual Property Rights and Innovations with an objective of enhancing the Intellectual Property knowledge base and research capabilities in related areas.

The Law and Technology Society (“L-Tech”) is a student-run initiative of the Student Bar Association at the National Law School of India University, Bangalore.

About the essay competition

NLSIU Center for Intellectual Property Research and Advocacy’s Law and Technology Society (“L-Tech”) is organising the NLSIU IPR-Technology Law Essay Competition.

Eligibility

This contest is open to all undergraduate students, postgraduate students and research scholars from all streams.

Themes

  • Disclosure requirements in Technical Standards.
  • Impact of 5G on IPR atmosphere.
  • Smart contracts and licensing.
  • Patenting AI: Legal Implications.

Prizes

1st place – Rs. 5000

2nd place – Rs. 3000

3rd place – Rs 2000

A certificate of participation shall be e-mailed to all authors who have successfully submitted an essay.

Depending upon the quality of entries, the best scoring essays will be published by CIPRA and Law and Technology Society, NLSIU in a booklet, with due credit given to the authors.

The winning author(s) will be offered an internship opportunity with CIPRA.

Registration details

All interested participants must register by sending a mail to nlsiuessaysubmission[at]gmail.com by 10th May 2019, confirming their participation in the competition.
Please mention your name, academic year/position and institution in the body of the mail. There is no registration fee for the competition.

Submission guidelines

There is no hard copy submission. Soft copies of the essays are to be submitted to nlsiuessaysubmission[at]gmail.com only. Please mention your name, academic year/position and institution in the body of the mail.
Every essay must have a title and abstract.
The deadline for submission is May 20, 2019, at 11:59 P.M. IST.
The suggested word limit is 2500 to 3000 words, exclusive of citations.
