Late Shashikala Ramakant Ekbote State Level Elocution & Debate Competitions [Feb 28, Pune]: Registrations Open

About the competition

Realising public speaking as an art that can help you to stand out in the crowd and a much important need to focus on their gestures, vocabulary, emphasis, voice modulation and posture to increase the effectiveness of the speech to describe the topics. Under the MOD Club, Modern Law College is organising State Level Elocution and Debate Competition in the Memory of Late Shashikala Ramakant Ekbote.

Eligibility and Rules for Participants

The competition is open for students pursuing any Undergraduate or Postgraduate degree courses in any recognized University/College. For Debate, a team shall consist of two students representing the same institute/college. For Elocution, a team shall consist of only one participant. A college can send more than one team for the competition.

All students shall carry their respective college IDs on the day of competition, failing which their registration will stand cancelled. Teams will not be allowed to observe other participant’s performance unless they are knocked out from the competition. Scouting of any team will result in disqualification.

The medium of competition will be in English, Hindi or Marathi.

Rules for Elocution

In the preliminary stage, each participant will get 4+1 minute to present their topic. . Each team will consist of one participant who will be presenting on one of the given topics.

Final Round: The participant will have to talk for and against the same topic (self-debate). For finals, each participant will get 3+3 minute

Rules for Debate

Each participant will get 5+2 minutes for presentation in both the rounds (Preliminary and Final). In total, a team will get 10+4 minutes to present both, for and against the motion.

Preliminary Round:  Each team will consist of two participants of which one member will present the ‘for motion’ and the other ‘against motion’. Each participant will get 5 minutes to present themselves and 2 minutes for Interrogation.

Final Round: Both the participants (consisting of a single team) shall speak either for or against the motion jointly, to be decided by draw of lots.

FOR FINAL ROUND:

  • Technology is limiting creativity

FOR PRELIMINARY ROUND:

  • Role of Supreme Court as a catalyst of social change
  • Indian model of Secularism
  • Happiness Index, 2018: India ranks 133

FOR FINAL ROUND:

  • Youth: Workforce or Menace

Prizes

For Debate:

  • First Prize – Rs. 2500, Certificate and Trophy
  • Second Prize – Rs. 1500, Certificate and Trophy
  • Special Appreciation – Rs. 1000, Certificate and Trophy

For Elocution:

  • First Prize – Rs. 2500, Certificate and Trophy
  • Second Prize – Rs. 1500, Certificate and Trophy
  • Special Appreciation – Rs. 1000, Certificate and Trophy

Registration Fees: Rs. 200 for one team (Debate and Elocution) Registration forms should be submitted on or before: 28 February, 2019
