About the University

K.R. Mangalam University is a private multidisciplinary university established in 2013 under the Haryana Private Universities Act. It is recognized by the UGC and accredited with NAAC Grade ‘A’, reflecting its strong academic standards. Located in Gurugram, the university offers a modern campus with advanced facilities and a vibrant learning environment.

About the Competition

The Inter-University Debate Competition,2026 seeks to provide a platform for students across the nation to engage in informed, critical, and structured discourse on pressing legal and societal issues.

The competition is designed to test participants on:

  • Depth of legal knowledge
  • Clarity of thought and articulation
  • Analytical and rebuttal skills
  • Ability to engage with contemporary challenges through a legal lens

It aims to foster a culture of reasoned argumentation, intellectual diversity, and respectful deliberation, hall marks of any progressive legal system.

Debate Themes

Participants may opt for any one of the following propositions:

Freedom of speech and expression in the era of social media-

  • FOR THE MOTION: *“Social media as a catalyst for expanding freedom of speech and expression. ”
  • AGAINST THE MOTION: “Social media as a threat to the integrity of freedom of speech and expression. ”

Eligibility

  • Open to undergraduate and postgraduate students from recognised universities across India
  • Participation is on an individual basis
  • Maximum of three entries per institution

Speaking Structure

  • Principal Arguments – 1 minute
  • Rebuttal – 2 Minute
  • Judges’ Interaction (if any) -1 Minute

Rules & Guidelines

  • Participants are required to adhere to formal dress code.
  • The use of electronic devices is strictly prohibited (cue cards permitted).
  • Arguments must be original, coherent, and substantiated with relevant legal principles, case laws, or examples.
  • Participants shall maintain decorum, respect, and professional conduct throughout the proceedings.
  • Any form of misconducts shall invite immediate disqualification.
  • The decision of the judges shall be final and binding.

Award and recognition

  • Winner – Cash Prize Rs 2100 /- and e- Certificate
  • Runner up- Cash Prize Rs.1100/- and e- Certificate
  • Best speaker – Cash Prize Rs 500/- and e-certificate

Registration fees

  • Individual- Rs 300 /-
  • Team- Rs 500/-
  • For KRMU students – Rs 50/- per student
