Established under the Maharashtra National Law University Act, 2014, on March 20, 2014, Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai (MNLU Mumbai) is one of India’s premier National Law Universities.
The Act envisioned the establishment of a National Law University in Maharashtra to impart advanced legal education and promote society-oriented research in legal studies, contributing to the advancement of societal well-being across the country.
Centre for Research in Public Law, Policy, and Jurisprudence (CRPLPJ) – Established in 2023, the centre promotes cutting-edge research, policy analysis, and discussions on critical issues in public law and governance.
Founded in 2002 by Padma Bhushan Shri J. F. Ribeiro (IPS Retd.), Dr. R. K. Anand, an eminent pediatrician and former Medical Director of Jaslok Hospital, Mumbai, and the late Shri B. G. Deshmukh (IAS Retd.), the Public Concern for Governance Trust (PCGT) is a non-profit organization committed to promoting transparency, accountability, and integrity in governance.
Under the leadership of Mr. D. Sivanandhan, former Mumbai Police Commissioner, PCGT plays a pivotal role in policy advocacy, civic engagement, and anti-corruption initiatives. PCGT was established at a time when honest and upright officers were being humiliated by political leadership.
The Centre for Research in Public Law, Policy, and Jurisprudence (CRPLPJ), Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai, in collaboration with the Public Concern for Governance Trust (PCGT), invites you to an insightful panel discussion on: “One Nation, One Election: A Democratic Reform or a Constitutional Dilemma?”
The electoral process is the foundation of Bharat’s democracy. The One Nation, One Election proposal aims to synchronize elections for the Lok Sabha, State Legislative Assemblies, and local bodies, with the objective of reducing financial and administrative burdens.
However, concerns regarding its impact on federalism, state autonomy, and democratic accountability persist.
This panel discussion will bring together legal and policy experts to critically examine the viability, challenges, and constitutional ramifications of this proposed reform.
No registration fees. The panel discussion is open to all. Interested candidates can register through the link given below this post.
