About NLIU Law Review

The NLIU Law Review is the flagship journal of the National Law Institute University, Bhopal. It is a peer-reviewed academic law journal, published biannually by the students of the University, which aims to inculcate a culture of academic research and writing among students and serves as an important forum for discourse on contemporary and pressing legal issues.

As of the year 2023, the Law Review has completed thirteen successful years, with twenty-one editions in publication.

About the Essay Competition

The IDIA – NLIU Law Review Essay Writing Competition offers a platform for law students and legal scholars to address contemporary legal issues and contribute to social empowerment. It is organized by the NLIU Law Review and IDIA MP Chapter, and sponsored by S&R Associates.

The Competition aims to promote diversity in thought and intellectual discourse, with the opportunity to contribute to IDIA’s efforts. Further, the Competition offers more than just monetary incentives, with the NLIU Law Review providing a platform for legal enlightenment and academic discourse.

Who is it for?

  • Students currently pursuing their Bachelor’s Degree in law i.e. 3- year LL.B. course or 5 year LL.B. course or professionals working in the field of law are eligible to participate.
  • Individual participation as well as co-authorship (upto two authors) is allowed.

Submission Guidelines

  • The manuscripts need to be submitted through Google form only (The same can be accessed here). Submissions made by any other means shall not be considered.
  • Submission should deal with relevant and contemporary legal and policy issues under the broad themes provided herein.
  • Submission and publication of manuscripts that purposefully target or intend to harm the religious, sociocultural, and/or political sentiments of any reasonable reader are strictly prohibited.
  • The submissions must strictly be limited to legal analysis of the covered topics.
  • Manuscripts that have already been submitted or published elsewhere must not be submitted.
  • The word limit for the submission is 3,000 to 7,000 words.
  • Manuscripts must include an abstract of 250-300 words. The abstract must highlight the structure and the essence of the manuscript.
  • References must be in the form of footnotes, which are to be formatted as per the style specifications provided herein.
  • Furthermore, footnotes must adhere to the Oxford University Standard for Citation of Legal Authorities (OSCOLA) (4th Edition).

Formatting Guidelines

  • Title [Times New Roman, 14 points, 1.5 line spacing, Bold, All Caps, Centre Aligned].
  • Abstract [Times New Roman, 12 points, 1.15 line spacing, Italics, Justified, 2 cm indent on both sides].
  • Heading Level 1 [Times New Roman, 14 points, 1.5 line spacing, Bold, Capitalize each word and Small Caps, Centre Aligned].
  • Numbering should be: I, II, III,…
  • Heading Level 2 [Times New Roman, 12 points, 1.5 line spacing, Italics, Sentence case, Centre Aligned].
  • Numbering should be: A, B, C, …

Eligibility Criteria

Students currently pursuing their Bachelor’s Degree in law i.e. 3-year LL.B. course or 5-year LL.B. course or professionals working in the field of law are eligible to participate.

  • Registration Fee:
    • Single Authorship: INR 300/-
    • Co-Authorship: INR 500/- (Maximum of 2 authors are allowed for co-authored entries)

Important Dates

  • Registrations Open: 30 October 2023
  • Last date to register and submit registration fee: 7 December 2023
  • Last date for submission of manuscripts: 23 December 2023
  • Declaration of Result: 15 April 2024

Awards

  • Winner: Cash prize of INR 25,000/- along with an internship with S&R Associates (for Law Students) and publication of the manuscript in Volume XIII Issue II of the NLIU Law Review.
  • First Runner(s)-up: Cash prize of INR 20,000/- and publication of the manuscript in Volume XIII Issue II of the NLIU Law Review, subject to compliance with submission guidelines.
  • Second Runner(s)-up: Cash prize of INR 15,000/- and publication of the manuscript in Volume XIII Issue II of the NLIU Law Review, subject to compliance with submission guidelines.
  • Certificate of Merit shall be awarded to the Top 10 manuscripts and all participants shall be presented with the Certificate of Participation.
