March,7,2016: Adarsh Sharma has been booked under several Indian Penal Code sections, including one which is non-bailable. After coming across as soft in their stance against a man who announced a bounty on JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar’s head, the Delhi Police finally arrested the accused on Monday.
Delhi Police on Monday questioned Adarsh Sharma, who claimed to be the president of ‘Purvanchal Sena’, in connection with the case registered over sticking posters in the city announcing a reward of Rs 11 lakh for anyone who “shoots dead” JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar.
Sharma was questioned at a police station in New Delhi district, a senior police official confirmed without divulging further details.
Adarsh Sharma, who claims to be the president of Poorvanchal Sena, has been booked under several Indian Penal Code sections, including one which is non-bailable.
On Saturday, Sharma had put up posters on the walls of some New Delhi establishments,announcing a reward of Rs. 11 lakh for anyone who would shoot dead Kanhaiya Kumar.
But what drew much ridicule was the subsequent police action in which Sharma was booked only for defacement of property.
But through Sunday and Monday, police added five more sections in the FIR against him, also booking him for suspected forgery. “The SIM card used by him is suspected to have been procured on fake identity proofs,” said a senior police officer.
On Saturday, posters announcing Rs 11 lakh reward for shooting dead Kumar were seen stuck on a wall near Press Club of India and bus stops and metro stations in New Delhi.
The poster said “whosoever shoots JNU Students’ Union president and seditionist Kanhaiya will be rewarded Rs 11 lakh on the behalf of Purvanchal Sena.”
The posters carried the mobile number and name of Adarsh Sharma, president of ‘Purvanchal Sena’.
On the same day, the police registered a case of defacement of property in connection with the matter and questioned one person, who was allegedly involved in sticking the posters.
On Saturday, in front of media for photographs with the poster in his hands. Speaking to The Hindu, he had said he has only Rs. 550 and Rs. 1,200 in his two bank accounts and had claimed that he would give the Rs. 11 lakh reward by collecting funds from the people of India.
