A Delhi Court has granted bail to Indian Youth Congress president Uday Bhanu Chib following his arrest over the ‘shirtless’ protest at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, rejecting Delhi Police’s plea for extended custodial interrogation, a setback to investigators probing the high-profile security breach at Bharat Mandapam.

Chib was produced before Duty Magistrate Vanshika Mehta in the early hours of February 28 after completing four days in police custody. The Delhi Police Crime Branch had sought a further seven-day remand, citing the need for continued questioning over the February 20 protest where IYC members allegedly entered the summit venue, raised slogans critical of the Prime Minister and the India-US trade deal, and engaged in a scuffle with security personnel. Fourteen individuals have reportedly been arrested in connection with the incident, which unfolded during the high-security summit attended by leading policymakers and industry figures.

The court, however, was unconvinced by the prosecution’s justification for continued detention. As Chib’s counsel pointed out, the magistrate found that investigators had “not been able to explain the reasons for seeking extension of PC remand.” Bail was granted on a surety bond of ₹50,000, with conditions directing Chib to surrender his passport and electronic devices.

The application for extended custody was dismissed.
