On Monday, taking suo moto cognizance of the matter, the Delhi High Court in continuation of its earlier orders, has extended all interim orders passed by it and its Subordinate Courts, which are subsisting as of today, till August 31, 2020.
The extension has been granted in both criminal and civil cases in view of the pertaining COVID-19 situation.
A three-Judge Bench comprising of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Siddharth Mridul and Justice Talwant Singh has passed an order to this effect taking in account the expeditious spreading of COVID-19 and the restricted functioning of the Courts.
During the hearing, Chief Justice DN Patel highlighted that on the first day of the COVID-19 testing camp in the High Court, 4-5 Delhi HC staffers tested positive for it while all of them were asymptomatic.
Previously on March 25, the High Court had passed an order extending the life of interim orders which were subsisting as on March 16 and were likely to expire or had already expired, till May 15, 2020.
Subsequently, with the continuation of the restricted functioning of the Courts in wake of the pandemic, the life of interim orders has been given two more extensions, the latest of which is to be expired on July 15.
With this Court order, the interim orders gets one more life and now shall expire on Aug 31st.
The Court shall take the matter for next hearing on August 24.
