Speaking at the national seminar on the topic 'Mediation: At The Dawn of a Golden Age', the Attorney General of India, R Venkataramani proposed setting up of National Council of Mediator's Watch and National Awards for Mediator's accomplishments.
In the Council, he suggested Advocate Generals from all different States and Senior Members of the Bar to be involved.
"I want to make some announcements. I propose to set up Attorney General's National Council of Mediator's Watch. It would involve Advocate General of all the States and senior members of the bar. The second announcement is setting up of Attorney General national award for mediation achievers. They will be identified at national level," he said.
The event was organized by the Delhi High Court Mediation and Conciliation Centre, Samadhan under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority and the Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee.
The Attorney General announced that he is keen to further the expansion of the mediation regime in the country, and therefore shall push the two above-mentioned agendas to his best in his short tenure.
CJI DY Chandrachud who also attended the event urged the Government to shift focus to Mediation from Litigation to send message to the masses of reliability on the method for dispute resolution.
