Indian National Bar Association (INBA) is the country’s largest voluntary bar association. INBA is honoured to have more than 10,000 registered members, 25 different sections and 15 International chapters across the globe with more than 10 Indian Regional Forums. In an endeavour to combat sexual harassment at workplace, INBA conducted and published its first edition of a survey on Sexual Harassment as Garima, Vol. 1.
The Survey conducted by INBA has been applauded by reputed agencies such as Livelaw, Indian Express, Firstpost, Lawrato, Axomlive, Lenseye etc. Recently, INBA has also launched the 2nd edition of Sexual Harassment Survey and Delhi Police Survey. Since inception, INBA has organized over 200 legal events and student awareness programs at national as well as international level. On the occasion of International Women’s Day 2018, INBA launched a book- The Phenomenal She featuring 100 leading women of the country to embrace female leadership, followed by the 2nd Edition of Phenomenal She.

The Section for Law Students draws on its rich cultural diversity to offer students a distinctive membership experience, which bridges the gap between disparate legal jurisdictions. Section for Law Students is governed by an Executive Committee, which comprises a team of dedicated law students, whose unflagging efforts in organizing projects enrich the career of law students in India. The Executive Committee is assisted by Research & Editorial Committee, Development & Programme Committee, Reporters Committee, Media Committee and Legal Aid Board, other INBA Sections and INBA core team, whose indefatigable efforts and unwavering support has ensured that Section for Law Students has grown by leaps and bounds since its inception.
About the Training Class
Law as a profession has gained enormous demand these days. In addition to being financially lucrative and promising, it is a career prospect involving huge adventures and creativity. Lawyers hold a great position of respect in the society wherein there still lies a trust amidst the mass that even if everything goes wrong, one may still blindly resort to the Legal system for the administration of Justice. Let alone Lawyers, in ones’s day to day life as well, legal advices hold important position, so does legal advisors.
In today’s era, Mediation is a form of alternative dispute resolution and is a way of resolving disputes between two or more parties. Apart from parties referring disputes to mediation voluntarily, under Section 89 of the Civil Procedure Code, 1908 where it appears to court that there exist elements of a settlement which may be acceptable to the parties, the court may refer parties to, inter alia, arbitration, conciliation or mediation. The mediator then helps them to reach a conclusion based on their agreed upon terms. As it is voluntarily process and the parties retain all the rights and powers, any party can withdraw from the process of mediation at any phase without stating any reason.
The mediation process in India follows all the general rules of evidence and, examination and cross-examination of witness. To know all the legal rights you have over the issue, you can discuss with your ADR lawyer hoe you can put up your demands and negotiate it with the other party. One of the primary benefits of mediation in India is that it is completely private methods of dispute resolution. Only the disputing parties and the mediator are involved, making the affairs of the parties personal and private. The mediator is an impartial and independent third party, who helps the parties in finding their own solution.
The Training Class focuses on training and awareness programs for students and academicians to demonstrate how meditating skills and conflict resolution skills can be used to solve the cases where the settlement can be done and to enable legal literacy in the contemporary legal field by the ones excelling in the same.
The Objectives of the Training Class is to:
- Demonstrate skills for students to become a successful Mediator and Negotiator;
- Develop better anticipation of negotiation in national and international settings;
- Explore different mediation processes in real life situations; and
- Extend opportunity to practice efficient and structured mediation
Esteemed Panel for the Training Class
- Santanu Mukherjee is an Advocate, and accredited Mediator. He is founder of Ex Lege Chambers, Advocates and Regulatory, Policy Advisors in New Delhi. Engaged in broad array of legal services including, policy regulatory advisory, transactional law support, legislative drafting and analyses, commercial mediation and litigation. With more than 20 years of experience in India and abroad, he specialises in Intellectual Property (IP) laws, International Trade Regulations, Competition and Technology laws. He has worked closely with different multilateral organizations, including WTO, WIPO and UNFCCC among others. He sits on the National Committees and Councils of leading industry chambers and legal professional associations. Passionate about legal education, he often gives seminars at academic institutions, joins in moots and regularly mentors young professionals.
- G. R. Raghavender is Registrar of Copyrights and Director in the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development. He is involved in policy making in copyrights and related rights and is also in charge of copyright and ISBN registration. He is a part of the Indian delegation that attends WIPO meetings. Previously, he has worked in the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, and in the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting where he dealt with broadcasting development, content, policy, regulation of TV Channels and its monitoring. Mr. Raghavender holds a post graduate degree from Institute of Social Studies (ISS), the Hague, the Netherlands in M.A. Development Studies (Public Policy & Management).
- Suman Doval has 25 years of progressive experience in Litigation across all the jurisdictions besides Arbitration. He joined illustrious Chambers of a Former Judge of Supreme Court of India, now Chairman, National Green Tribunal, in Delhi High Court in the year 1991 and remained till his elevation. Further, he got associated with Chambers of Shri R Venkataramani, Senior Advocate.
- P K Malhotra has more than forty years ‘experience in the field of law in various capacities out of which, he has worked in the Ministry of Law & Justice for more than 25 years as an officer of Indian Legal Service and reached the Apex level of Union Law Secretary. His significant foreign assignments include that of being the Head of Indian Delegation to Vienna and New York to participate in the meeting of UNCITRAL relating to Arbitration, Conciliation and Mediation; Mr. Malhotra represented India before WTO Dispute Resolution Panel in Geneva in dispute between India-EU; He has also participated in several meetings relating to Bilateral Investment Agreements with USA, Australia, Hong Kong, China, Oman and some other countries. Mr. P. K Malhotra is a recipient of Gold Medal by Delhi University for securing highest marks in the Diploma in International Law Examination of the University. He has also been awarded for Leadership in ICT and Cyber Laws by TEMA, CMAI, and TEPC in 2017. Mr. P. K. Malhotra holds a master’s degree in Political Science along with an LLM Diploma in International Law.
- Dr. B Ramaswamy is a Legal Expert, Educator, Author & Motivator. He is an advocate at Supreme Court and High Court of Delhi, Madras and Madurai Bench. He is a Former Bench of Magistrate. Dr. Ramaswamy is empanelled as advocate with Delhi High Court for Pro Bono and Mediation and is a legal advisor to members of Parliament since 2014. Dr. Ramaswamy is a Patron & Committee member of International Bar Association, London. Dr. Ramaswamy is a member of Asia Pacific Regional Forum, European Regional Forum, International Bar Association’s Human Rights Institute Trust. Dr. Ramaswamy has written many books on Law viz., Women and Law, IPR and Law, Ji Act Views and Perspectives, Competition of Law and Economics, Human Rights and Law, Consumer and Law, Disability and Law, Human Rights Of Women : Legal Perspectives, International Human Rights Law and Child Human Rights. Dr. Ramaswamy was awarded Honorary Doctorate on Humanities in Apostolic International University, affiliated with and accredited by International Institute of Church Management Inc., Florida, USA. Recently he was awarded D.Litt. from International Economics University, Maldives. D.Litt. (Honoris Causa) Doctor of Letters California Public University, Northern Mariana Islands. USA, for higher education. Dr. Ramaswamy was awarded Best Law Teacher of the year 2019 by Indian National Bar Association. Dr. Ramaswamy was conferred Kautilya Award by The Indian Economic Association for his outstanding contributions on Development Economics Writings and lecture for nation building.
