The epicenter of COVID-19 – Bombay High Court seeks response from the State in relation to converting railway coaches into isolation centers[Read Order]

A PIL entitled Naresh Kapoor v. Union of India and others has been filed at the Bombay High Court for dealing with COVID-19. The PIL has been fined by Learned Advocate Prerak Choudhary Audrey and Jigar Kamdar. The Learned Advocate Prerak Choudhary asked the Judiciary to look into theses issues -Making the rapid test kits accessible in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region( MMR ). The hospitals whose license has been expired shall be reopened as there is a dearth of beds. The private nursing dispensaries and homes shall be reopened. the private practitioners shall be able to prescribe COVID-19 tests. The information regarding the availability of beds in hospitals shall be uploaded online. Transportation relating to medical needs shall be accessible and the coaches shall be converted into makeshift ICU's. However, the Maharashtra Government has already issued circular only the use of rapid test kits and the Brihan  Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has already issued guidelines for the private practitioners. The State said that about 80% of beds in private hospitals are reserved for COVID-19 patients. Hon’ble Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and MS Karnik asked the state government to give details of converting railway coaches into isolation/ quarantine centers.  For reopening of nursing homes the High Court has already taken action in the case Jan Swasthya Abhiyan Anr v.  State of Maharashtra and Ors. The pending issues are scheduled for hearing for July 2.
