Supreme Court quashes Criminal Case against MS Dhoni for portraying as God on Magazine cover

Dhoni appeared on a Magazine cover as Lord Vishnu holding a shoe in hand.

Supreme Court has today quashed a criminal Complaint filed against M S Dhoni, for portraying himself as God on a Magazine cover and hurting religious sentiments.

Apex Court Bench headed by Justice Ranjan Gogoi passed the order in favour Dhoni while observing that the trial court in Karnataka had erred in summoning the cricketer as Accused without following the due procedure of Law.

The criminal proceedings against Dhoni were stayed by the Apex court on September 14 2015,

He was facing a complaint for allegedly portraying himself as Lord Vishnu on cover page of a magazine Business Today.

The order of Karnataka High Court refusing to stall the criminal proceedings against him was also stayed.

MS Dhoni had to file a Special Leave Petition before SC challenging the Karnataka HC order.

A social activist Jayakumar Hiremath had filed the complaint allegeding that Dhoni had appeared on the cover of a business magazine as Lord Vishnu. He is seen holding a shoe in his hands.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) had takec the cognizance and had directed for registration of a case against Dhoni under Section 295, 34 IPC.

Later, the ACMM Court also issued summons to Dhoni to appear before the court.
