Police shouldn't beat up citizens who violate lockdown & should maintain social distancing while on the streets, Justice Devan Ramachandran of the Kerala HC said on Thursday.

In a letter to Kerala State Police Chief Loknath Behera, Justice Devan states that, “There are clips being circulated in social media of police officers beating up persons who deliberately violate the lockdown. Don’t know if any of them are from Kerala. But, I must request you to direct all officers not to do so at any cost, unless it is absolutely essential to use force & even then, only to the extent necessary.”

HC Judge further stated that,"Police officers are seen talking to pedestrians & motorists by standing very near & even touching & pushing obstinate ones".

Justice Devan said,"Police is doing a commendable job but safety & health can't be jeopardized".
