Today, the Delhi High Court has directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and Northern Railways to take a time-bound decision on complaints regarding public parking mismanagement, signalling judicial insistence on administrative accountability in urban infrastructure issues affecting daily commuters.
The case arose from a public interest petition raising concerns over irregularities and poor management of parking spaces under civic and railway authorities. The petitioner raised issues relating to the handling, regulation, and oversight of such facilities, urging judicial intervention. However, instead of proceeding with detailed adjudication, the Court steered the process towards administrative resolution, allowing the petitioner to consolidate all grievances into a formal representation supported by relevant materials for consideration by the concerned authorities.
The Division Bench of Chief Justice DK Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia observed that a structured representation would enable a more effective examination of the issues and directed the petitioner to submit the same within a stipulated period. It further mandated that the authorities, upon receiving the representation, must evaluate the concerns and take a decision in accordance with the law, ensuring that the outcome is duly communicated. Emphasising responsibility on public bodies, the Court noted that corrective steps must follow wherever required.
Consequently, the matter was disposed of with a direction to decide the representation within two months.
