Gender biases don't have any place in the modern India where inclusive development is the key objective, Hon'ble President Pranab Mukherjee said on Wednesday.
He also grieved the rise in crime against women & said it was inexcusable that they don't feel as secure & safe as they should in India.
President remarks came during the ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan to present the Nari Shakti (Women Power) Puraskar on occasion of the International Women's Day.
31 awardees who were honoured included 1st ever women troupe of Kathakali dancers, ISRO scientists, India's 1st female graphic novelist, survivors of acid attack & environment, trafficking and animal activists, among others.
The 3 women scientists from ISRO, who were honoured, are B Codananyaguy, Subha Varierand & Anatta Sonney. They've participated in ISRO's historic space missions like Mangalyaan mission, Chandrayaan mission & the recent launch of 104 satellites in 1 go.
Tripunithura Kathakali Kendram Ladies Troupe from Kerala was formed in the year 1975 & since then they've delivered more than 1,500 performances in India & in foreign countries.
Other winners were Amruta Patil, a painter and writer & also the 1st female graphic novelist of India.
Mumtaz Kazi, Asia's 1st woman to drive a diesel train, was also bestowed with an award.
