High Court issues Notification regarding Annual Durga Puja Vacation, 2020 [Read Notification]

The Calcutta High Court having regard to the filing of cases and other related matters during the ensuing Annual Puja Vacation, 2020 granted in light of the festival of Durga Puja, issued certain guidelines via the notification dated 19.10.2020 for ensuring smooth functioning of the Vacation Benches.

The guidelines seek to reduce the burden of work on the Court and ensure that the Court officers as well as the staff may be able to celebrate the Durga Puja festival along with their families, peacefully.

The guidelines given under the notification are as follows:

1. The sitting of Benches (both Division and Single) will be from 11.00 a.m. to 1.15 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 4.30 p.m.

2. Filing of Civil, Criminal, Constitutional and all other matters in respect of the Principal Bench should be done physically, and not through e-mail.

3. Filing in respect of the Circuit Benches of Calcutta High Court at Port Blair and Jalpaiguri should only be done through e-Mail in the e-Mail Ids, already notified by this Hon’ble Court.

4. If any matter is released by any of the Single Bench(es), the same shall be heard by the other available Single Bench(es).

5. From 02.11.2020 to 13.11.2020 there will be a skeleton staff on duty for allotting permanent numbers. No matter without permanent number will be ordinarily entertained.

6. No matter shall ordinarily be entertained at the residence of the Hon’ble Judges.

7. In the absence of the Hon’ble Chief Justice, the senior most Judge available in town shall exercise the determining power during the Annual Vacation.

8. All applications to be moved in Court should be filed with Form – “A” and/or “B” mentioning the Court No. along with the name/names of the Hon’ble Judge/Judges positively.

9. Affidavits may be sworn in at the Court premises from 10.00 a.m. on the above mentioned days only.

10. Two Commissioners of Affidavit are to be present by 10.00 a.m. on each and every working day (except executive holidays, as per roster) and to remain present in office till completion of Court business.

11. The Criminal Section will remain open on all the days mentioned above for the conduct of urgent works. Further, the notification also mentioned that the directions as per the notifications floated earlier concerning filing of cases in the Principal Bench, shall resume on and from 17th November, 2020.
