Actor had made alleged comments while speaking on the coverage by Tamil Newspaper on the arrest of an actress on the charge of sleaze and other reports following her arrest.

Madras High Court has stayed defamation proceedings against the eight Tamil film actors pending in a court in Udhagamandalam, till disposal of their petition seeking quashing of the case.

While passing the interim orders on a petition by actors, Justice M V Muralidharan also dispensed with their personal appearance before Judicial Magistrate Court in Udhagamandalam.

Actors are Sathyaraj, Surya, Cheran, Vijayakumar, Sarathkumar, Vivek, Sripriya and Arun Vijayakunmar.

Complaint was filed against in the Magistrate Court by Udhagamandalam-based journalist Rozario Mariya Susai for their alleged defamatory statements against the journalists made in October, 2009.

On May 25,2017 Justice S Vimala had stayed non-bailable warrants issued against actors for failure to appear before Udhagamandalam Court.

Justice Muralidharan has thus extended stay granted by Court on December 14, 2011 on the petition. By stating that no prejudice will be caused to respondent by grant of the stay.

The matter has been posted for hearing on July 5,2017.
