In a setback to DMK, which made allegations of corruption against Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy in awarding tender for maintenance of road worth Rs 1,165 crore, the Madras high court on Tuesday said it is better to ‘honourably withdraw’ the plea.

The DVAC says that no one participated in the tender. When that is the case, then where is the scope for corruption, Justice N Sathish Kumar orally observed.

The issue pertains to the plea moved by DMK organising secretary RS Bharathi seeking direction to the DVAC to file FIR against the chief minister based on his complaint dated May 6.

In his complaint, Bharathi alleged several irregularities in tender floated for widening, strengthening and improving state highways and major district roads for a length of 462.211 kms in Thanjavur, Orathanadu, Pattukottai and Peravoorani worth Rs 1,165 crore.

When the plea came up for hearing, state public prosecutor A Natarajan submitted that the petition is infructuous and the same is liable to be dismissed since already DVAC has closed the complaint as no prima facie case was made out in the preliminary inquiry.
