Eight days after the Bikru village bloodbath in which eight cops were killed, gangster Vikas Dubey was shot dead in an early Friday morning encounter by the STF and police.
The encounter occurred near Sachendi area, 2km from district headquarters, when one of the three police vehicles taking gangster Vikas Dubey to Kanpur from Ujjain, where he was arrested, overturned following heavy rains near Sachendi on the highway.
SP west Anil Kumar meanwhile told reporters Vikas Dubey attempted to flee by snatching pistol of the injured policemen after the car bringing him to Kanpur from Ujjain overturned on the highway in Sachendi area. Police tried to make him surrender, during which he opened fire at them. In the retaliatory firing, he was injured following which police rushed him to Lala Lajpat Rai hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
STF personnel, who suffered injuries have also been admitted to LLR hospital. Senior police officials including IG Kanpur range Mohit Agarwal and SSP Dinesh Kumar Prabhu have rushed to the hospital to take note of the situation.
