The legal fraternity is feeling the heat of coronavirus. Worried over the plight of junior lawyers & with courts not functioning, Telangana bar council has written letters to PM Narendra Modi & CM K Chandrasekhar Rao to extend Rs 10,000 to each economically backward advocate to sustain his or her family.
“Continuous lockdown of trial courts & the HC will push 5,000 lawyers with less than ten years of experience towards a terrible situation. There are 33,500 lawyers registered with the state bar council & our study shows that 10,000 of them are poor.
Of this, 5,000 are in dire straits who need immediate help from the state govt during the lockdown period,” said Chalakani Venkat Yadav, member of the bar council & also the govt’s welfare counsel in the HC.
He told newsmen on Thursday that since the govt had already created a welfare fund, it could extend Rs 10,000 to each poor advocate.
Advocates going to attend court hearings in urgent matters should be allowed to reach courts without hassles, he said.
